These two inventory lists are a re-keying of the information originally typed by George Masa when he owned Plateau Studios in 1920 – mid 1924. The lists are in two notebooks maintained in the Ball Collection at D.H. Ramsey Library, Special Collections, University of North Carolina at Asheville, NC.
Appendix E – Inventory List of 5 x 7 Inch Negatives
Appendix F – Inventory List of 8 x 10 Inch Negatives
Each inventory list indicates when an image has been found for a photograph. There are three options when looking at the Database Code field:
- A blank field indicates no image has been found.
- A Database Code with a white background indicates a negative has been located in the Ball Collection. The Ball Collection number appears in a column to the right.
- A Database Code with a field highlighted in turquoise indicates the image was found as a print or in a publication.
The “Date” column reflects the year which was written below “Plateau Studios” on the right side of the negative. Alternatively, it shows the date typed on the description line in the inventory list.
As explained in more detail in the Comments on Photographs and Collections document, this entering of the inventory into spreadsheets includes Masa’s incorrect spellings and abbreviations as they were originally typed. Some typical abbreviations used include:
- B. of T. = Board of Trade
- C. O. C. = Chamber of Commerce
- W. A. = wide angle
- G. P. = Grove Park
- C. R. = Chimney Rock
